Marvel AWARD-WINNING COMPOSER
In May of 2020, Marvel was nominated for a Webby Award for the Today in Marvel History series that has seen over 40 episodes. I was the composer & sound designer from start to finish, credited in the Webby Award for the music & sound design. We won!
In March 2018 I was hired to do some voice-over work for Marvel Entertainment, portraying the mighty Galactus. Lo and behold, and I’m now 40+ music compositions deep for their creative universe. Aside from being incredibly honored, I’m actually mostly grateful for the opportunity to get my brain working in ways I never imagined before. Scoring comic book characters is just as challenging as it sounds. With each character comes a different style and vibe that really gets your musical toolbox opened up. I’ve composed everything from classical, jazz, electronic, into the realms of metal, rock, and your expected epic superhero music. Regardless of the character, this required removing all boundaries and limitations, just as the Marvel Universe has done since 1941. As of 2019, Jesse Zuretti is a member of the Society of Composers & Lyricists.
EARLY LIFE & UPBRINGING
Jesse was born in New Jersey on May 7th, 1986 to mother Kate Bartholomew, and father Stephen Zuretti. Jesse was born and raised into a creative upbringing: British Grandfather Freddie Bartholomew is one of the most famous child actors of all time, Director for As the World Turns, and one of the 250 Greatest Male Screen Legends nominated by the American Film Institute in 1999. Swedish Grandmother Aileen Phillips was a WABC tv show host, author, radio performer, and educator. Jesse was raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico by his mother and Grandmother Aileen.
INFLUENCES
One of Jesse’s strongest skill sets with music is the ease of connecting emotions and a story to characters and scenes; a musical empath, so to speak. The end goal is for the music to be a character or story in and of itself. Another incredibly important facet to the breath of capabilites Jesse has as a composer: Diversity & Originality. Timeless films, series, stories, and the characters within are only as timeless as the music that accompanies the final production.
Jesse is greatly influenced by the music of Film & Music Composers Trent Reznor, Hans Zimmer, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Danny Elfman, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Lorne Balfe, Samuel Barber, Colin Stetson, Henryk Gorecki, Eric Whitacre, Bernard Herrmann, Robert Glasper Jr, and John Carpenter.
Visual storytelling plays a huge role in Jesse’s influence, from Directors Denis Villeneuve, Christopher Nolan, Tim Burton, John Carpenter, David Lynch, Ridley Scott, David Fincher, Stanley Kubrick, David Cronenberg, Stefano Sollima, Quentin Tarantino, Ari Aster, and Paul Verhoeven.
